A date can be preserved. It cannot be invented.
Photos often carry their original capture date in the file itself. Saving, re-sharing, taking screenshots, or downloading a converted copy can remove or replace that information. When that happens, nobody can recover the real day just by looking at the filename. The best approach is to find the original source file and test it before moving thousands of photos.
That is the standard Our Pear Tree follows: read the date that exists, let you correct the date that does not, and keep the difference visible. A family timeline is only useful if you can trust it.
